Gimme a Break

It hasn't been 9 months since I completely ruptured my Achilles tendon playing basketball last year. Last weekend I was out riding bike, only the second time since my heal was fixed. My bike tire caught the groove between the grass and the sidewalk and down I went.

I landed full-force on my right shoulder, breaking my collarbone and a rib. Besides my nose and a finger, I had never broken a bone before, so I really wasn't sure what to expect. Fortunately my neighbor is a doctor and was able to get me in to see "the best shoulder doctor around". He deserves every penny we paid him. It's Monday, I'm off the pain meds and back to work. The most pain I had after the surgery was the tape pulling at my skin.

It was a bad week, especially since I was supposed to be at the beach for the second half of it. But I have to say, I was expecting to be down for far greater than 7 days. Thanks to my wife, family, friends and doctors for doing everything they could to get me through comfortably! I am extremely blessed to have such supportive people around me.

I promise that I will act my age and stay out of the hospital.
